SOUND SCULPURES-VARIOUS ARTISTS, ARC RECORDS, LP, 197?, CANADA

soundsculpt

ARC Canada put together a lovely cross section of sound sculpture spanning 3 decades of works. The collection was housed for 60 days at the Vancouver Art Gallery. During the collections stay multiple recordings were made within the gallery's conducive environment. The collection was curated by experimental sound and tape artist David Rosenboom (who had a short stint at Mills College here in Oakland) The recordings feature sounds not found on the Sonambient series of Harry Bertoia, making this collection heavily sought after by Bertoia collectors. Additional recordings of works by Francois & Bernard Baschet, Stephan Von Huene, Reinhold Pieper Marxhausen and David Jacobs make for a wonderful and eclectic collection of outerworldly soundscapes. A must hear for any sound art enthusiast!

JON GIBSON-VISITATIONS, CPS, 1973, L.P., U.S.A

VISITATIONS

NYC, 1973. Chatham Square Productions, INC
First solo LP by this Phillip Glass part time collaborator and label mate. Beautifully done left field modern minimal classical work. A wonderful excursion in "non-monumental music". Instrumentation includes: wooden flutes, bells, cymbals, synth, brook, claves and various effects. A great example of field recordings interweaving with composed musical instruments to create sonic blanketing . Put this on in place of your morning and evening ragas for a similar effect on heads.

GRIMBLE GRUMBLE-S/T ,LP, 1998, U.S.A

grimble

Grimble Grumble S/T LP 1998
just about anyone heavy into music has had heavy doses of "shoegaze" beginning as early as the late 80's with groups from the u.k dominating the scene - my bloody valentine, slowdive, swervedriver etc. and other slightly lesser known groups like loop, bark psychosis, seefeel etc..however beginning in 1995 via the midwest spacerock scene, these for-runners of the genre began with singles on Enraptured and Orchre in the UK but also caught attention of labels such at Burnt Hair and Rocket Racer. with heavy nods to Windy & Carl, FSA, Amp and other spaced out drone groups of the period. Grimble Grumble, this album in particular really made waves when it was released in 1998. its elusive cover art (no band name, record label or track titles anywhere) in all it's shiney bronze glory only hand a letter pressed number on the back which seemed to be in an addition of 1000? all in all when cross-referenced with other friends collections that were also into the spacerock scene at the time, this record is somehow missing... possibly more rare than it seems, it remains a pillar in the Sanity Muffins archive from this period. Highly Recommended!!...
